Best Waves Plugins 2026
Waves makes more plugins than anyone needs. That is the real problem with the catalog: not quality, but volume. Finding the best Waves plugins means cutting through hundreds of options down to the handful that actually earn a place in your chain.
I have been using and following Waves for decades, as a producer and as a mastering engineer. This is the filtered list, sorted by the job you are trying to do: vocals, mastering, drums, electronic music, mixing, and the bundles worth owning.
Short on time? Get Waves Gold. Over 45 plugins, the most popular plugin collection ever made, and it covers most of what is below. The rest of this post is for when you want to know exactly why, and what to add next.

Considerations
A few things before the list:
- Value for money. Waves plugins are almost always on sale. Wait for the discount, do not pay full price.
- Test for yourself. Your material and your ears are not mine. Demo before you buy.
- Affiliate links. This post contains affiliate links. I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It keeps the site running.
Best Waves plugins for vocals
Waves Tune
Waves Tune is pitch correction that stays natural. It lets you make precise adjustments without the artificial sound, so you keep the performance and just fix the tuning. If you are after the obvious Auto-Tune effect, see Waves Tune Real-Time below.
Waves Tune Real-Time
Waves Tune Real-Time does the same job with zero latency, correcting pitch as it plays. Easy to use, and it is also how you get the Auto-Tune sound on purpose.
Tip: The Quantized Correction preset is the Auto-Tune effect. Start there if that is the sound you want.
Waves Harmony
Waves Harmony generates vocal harmonies from a single vocal track. It is a fast way to add depth to an arrangement without tracking every part yourself.
Waves Vocal Rider
Waves Vocal Rider rides the vocal level for you, the slow automation pass that otherwise eats an hour of your session. A classic, and still worth it.
Tips:
- Feed the mix into the sidechain so the vocal sits against the track, not in isolation.
- Put Silk Vocal after Vocal Rider. It is an easy route into a modern vocal sound.
Waves Silk Vocal
Waves Silk Vocal is an intelligent EQ and dynamics processor that pulls boominess, harshness and sibilance out of a vocal, identifying resonances across 2000 bands.
Tips:
- Apply it gently. Pushed hard it strips the character along with the problems.
- Do not skip the compressor. It is tuned for vocals and it is good.
Waves Clarity Vx
Waves Clarity Vx removes background noise from a vocal. It is built for music but works just as well on voiceover, podcast and dialogue post-production.
Waves Ovox Vocal Resynthesizer
Waves Ovox turns your voice into a production tool: vocoding, chord generation, pitch tuning, voice to MIDI, drum and bass synthesis.
Tip: Convert your voice to MIDI in real time and send it to any instrument. That is the trick worth the price.
Best Waves plugins for mastering
Waves Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain
Waves Abbey Road TG models a vintage mastering console from the 70s that is still in use today. The EQ is smooth, the compressor is solid and snappy, and the stereo widener is lovely in small doses. It sounds good and it is genuinely fun to use.
Tip: Hit the switch in the top right of each module for extended controls. It is easy to miss.
Waves C6 Multiband Compressor
Waves C6 gives you dynamic control band by band, which is what makes it work for mastering.
Tips:
- The external sidechain lets the C6 react to another source, for example ducking one element when another comes in.
- Switch between Electro and Opto to change how the compression behaves.
Waves Center
Waves Center lets you adjust the center and the sides of a stereo mix independently. Push the bass to the center, widen the image, lift the punch in the middle or at the edges.
Tips:
- For punch and impact in a full mix, push Low and Punch toward the center.
- To widen or narrow the image, move the Sides fader up or down. That is the whole trick.
Waves L2 Ultramaximizer
Waves L2 Ultramaximizer is a legend. In the 2000s it was the limiter, and it shaped the sound of the era. By today’s standards it is transparent, and that is exactly why people still reach for it. Light on CPU and low latency, so it works on individual tracks too.
Tips:
- ARC, the Adaptive Release Control, stays more transparent. Manual release gets you everything from pumping to distortion.
- One of my favourite tricks: set the L2 up in dual mono and listen to the stereo image open up.
Waves Vitamin Sonic Enhancer
Waves Vitamin is a multiband harmonic enhancer that adds warmth, clarity and presence. It is easy to operate and it sounds very good. This is the best Waves saturation plugin, and one of the best Waves plugins for mastering, though it is just as useful on a subgroup or a single track.
Tips:
- The per-band width control gives you real command over the stereo image.
- Pull the Direct fader all the way down to hear only what Vitamin is adding. Use it constantly.
Waves SSL Compressor
Waves SSL Compressor is the classic glue compressor, the one that pulls a master together into something cohesive and polished. It is the best Waves master compressor.
Tips:
- A good starting point: 4:1 ratio, 30 ms attack, auto release.
- To set the attack and release, crank the threshold hard so you can hear the compression clearly, then ease off once it is dialled in.
Best Waves plugins for drums
Waves Smack Attack
Waves Smack Attack is a transient shaper. It adds or removes attack and sustain, which is how you get punch and definition into a drum sound that lacks it.
Waves CLA-76 Compressor / Limiter
Waves CLA-76 is fast. Fast attack, fast release, which is what makes it right for drums.
Tips:
- All Buttons In mode is the aggressive, distinctive sound. Reach for it when you want the compressor to be heard.
- On the attack and release knobs, 1 is the slowest setting and 7 is the fastest. It catches people out.
Waves API-2500
Waves API-2500 is a bus compressor. It adds glue and punch to a drum bus and keeps the whole kit moving as one thing.
Best Waves plugins for electronic music
Waves Element
Waves Element is a virtual analog synth, and a serious one. Rich, dynamic, and it ships with over 400 presets if you want a fast start.
Tips:
- The Punch switch on the VCA gives bass patches real extra energy.
- I like building polyrhythmic patterns with the sequencer. Set the mode to Sequence and pick your step count.
Waves Space Rider
Waves Space Rider is a creative reverb for adding depth and space. It is built for movement, not just for a static tail.
Waves CR8 Creative Sampler
Waves CR8 is a sampler built for sound design: load, mangle, modulate. It comes with 2500 royalty-free samples and a free copy of the Cosmos Sample Finder.
Waves Cosmos Sample Finder
Waves Cosmos is an AI-powered sample finder. It scans and tags your sample library so you can actually find things, and it pairs directly with CR8.
Best Waves plugins for mixing
Waves F6 Floating-Band Dynamic EQ
Waves F6 is the best Waves EQ plugin for mixing and mastering. Clean, precise, and dynamic when you need it to be.
Tips:
- Use the Solo button to hear exactly the band you are working on before you commit a move.
- With a short attack, an F6 band boosts or cuts transients, which is a great trick on drums. With a longer attack, it stays transparent.
Waves NLS Non-Linear Summer
Waves NLS emulates the analog summing of classic mixing consoles, adding warmth and character across the mix.
Tip: My favourite setup is Mike on the channels and Spike on the bus. Open and crunchy.
Waves NX Virtual Studio Collection
Waves NX models the acoustics of famous mixing rooms on any pair of headphones, including Ocean Way Nashville and Chris Lord-Alge’s room. It includes correction curves for over 270 headphone models.
Tip: Use NX to check a mix in a different room. It catches problems your own monitoring hides.
Best Waves bundle
Waves Gold
Waves Gold has sold over a million copies, which makes it the most popular plugin collection ever made. Over 45 plugins: EQs, compressors, reverbs, effects. For most people, this is the one to buy.
Waves Mercury
Waves Mercury is not for everyone. I am including it because it is what I run, and yes, I bought it with my own money. It is not cheap, but it is close to 200 plugins, and Waves keeps adding to it with every major version.
Waves Creative Access: subscription or perpetual?
Since 2023, Waves sells two ways, and it is worth understanding the difference before you buy anything above.
A perpetual license is a one-time purchase. You own that version of the plugin for good. Updates come through the Waves Update Plan, which is free for the first year and renewable after. Everything else in this post assumes perpetual licenses.
Waves Creative Access is a subscription. It comes in two tiers, Essential and Ultimate. You pay monthly or yearly, you get every plugin in the tier, updates are included, and new releases are added as they ship.
Which one? It depends on how you work, not on which looks cheaper today. If you want the whole catalog now and a recurring cost does not bother you, the subscription is the fastest way in. If you would rather own a smaller set of tools outright and never think about a renewal date, buy perpetual and wait for the sales. I own mine outright. That is a preference, not a rule. Waves pricing moves constantly, so check the current numbers before you commit either way.
